1trn Constituency Projects: Reps probe unspent budget funds of MDAs

Following a motion moved by Honourable Abubakar Hassan Fulata, member representing Birniwa/Guru/Kiri-Kasamma federal constituency on the “need to investigate and Refund of Unspent monies”, the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating Ministries Departments and Agencies over unspent budgetary funds began its hearing.
The investigation was prompted by an allegation that the N1trn was spent on constituency projects for 10 years without results and that the members were the people who these monies pass through.
The Chairman of the ad hoc Committee, honourable Uduyok Francis, member representing Ikot abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo federal constituency, on Tuesday in Abuja noted that it is not a witch hunt but to set the record straight and get Nigeria running on the right footing.
He added that the investigation is to ascertain whether 1trn was actually released due to the fact that there is no time that 100% of appropriation fund has been released.
Hon. Francis also noted that members are not contractors to any agency or government, adding that They are only fortunate to nominate projects into the budget to create the impact of the federal government existence.
“We have discovered that some agencies have only received 40% of the ZIP and that physical projects that are construction in nature, because of the funding system, it is difficult to complete a project in one life span of a budget”, he said.
The Lawmaker also said that they are open to petition if anybody feels that his member has not done anything you make submission and we will investigate.
“If we have substantial prove that agencies did not pay for projects which they claimed to have been paid for, they will be made to refund such money as they are classified as unspent funds”, he stated.
