Shea butter is a suitable alternative in economic diversification- Hon. Kannike
In line with the economic diversification agenda of this administration, Hon. Amuda-Kannike Abubakar, member representing Ilorin east south federal constituency in the House of Representatives has identified Shea butter as a suitable alternative to economic diversification in Nigeria.
Hon Kannike disclosed this to our Reporter on Wednesday, adding that the nation is blessed with numerous natural resources with shea nuts inclusive.
“Anybody from the North West or North Central knows that shea butter trees grow in abundance. In the past people pick the seeds and process them locally”, he said.
“In tryig to move away from the monotony of oil driven economy and considering the fact that shea butter is very substantial in cosmetic and pharmaceutical world, it is important to harness the opportunities that abound in it”, Hon Kannike said.
The lawmaker said that the bill seeking the establishment of the Shea Butter Research Institute, if passed into law, would enabled the country harness the great potential in the Shea Butter industry.
He further explained that the institute will be changed with the responsibility of ensuring generic improvement, production and processing the Shea Butter in order to improve the life span.
The Lawmaker added that the establishment of the Shea Butter Institute is of great importance as it has the potential of attracting investors in the Shea Butter industry.
