EndSARS Protest: Nigerian in diaspora commends FG for dissolving SARS
A Nigerian in the daispora, Dr. Kemdi Opara, has commended the Federal Government for disbanding the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS at their behest.
In a statement made available to the Newsmen, Opara commended the FG for listening to the masses masses, describing the gesture as a rare one that should be celebrated.
He advised that disbanding SARS is not enough but should be an opportunity to make things right and change the face of police in its entirety in Nigeria.
“Now is the time to change the Nigeria Police Force for the better they must learn to respect people’s rights in the discharge of their dutie”, he stated.
Dr Kemdi, cautioned against what he termed taking the people for granted saying that the bigger job is to change the mentality of all those in uniform and not just the police
He said government should take advantage of the recent happenings to calm frayed egos, train and retrain police officers to make them better and adaptable to international police standards.
“With training and retraining, the police in Nigeria would realize that they are paid to defend the people and not intimidate them just like in other countries of the world”.
Dr. Opara opined, that though there are bad eggs in the force everywhere in the world, but it becomes worst if the bad ones out numbers the good ones.
He saluted the resolve and courage of President Muhamadu Bihari and the Inspector General of Police, IGP Adamu for making the voices of the masses prevail in the struggle to End Police Brutality all over the country adding that the decision has once again placed Nigeria on high pedestal across the globe.
The APGA candidate for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal House in the 2019 general election, applauded Nigeria youths especially in the South East for peotesting peacefully against perceived injustice and charged them to always tow the path of dialogue and not confrontation.
