Airtel Mask is not my constituency project, Sen Oriolowo insists
Senator Adelere Oriolowo, representing Osun West Senatorial district has condemned in strong terms media reports on the claim by him (Sen. Oriolowo) that the installed Airtel mask was his constituency projects.
A press statement by Oluniyi Isamotu
Media Aide to Senator Adelere Adeyemi Oriolowo, stated that the mast was in fulfilment of his electioneering campaign promise to ensure a means of communication in Ago-Owu farm settlement in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State.
Isamotu noted that the installation of the mask was as a result of a collaborative efforts of the Senator and the telecommunication firm.
The statement reads in full: “It has come to the notice of the Media Office of Senator Adelere Oriolowo of Osun-west of some certain mischievous and deliberate misinformation about a certain event that involves him.
During the electioneering campaign, the only request of Ago-Owu farm settlement in Ayedaade local government from Senator Adelere Oriolowo is that if he gets elected, all they want from him is a means of communication to the outside world. And as God will have it, he was elected and he set the ball rolling to fulfill his promise to the community by making necessary contacts and writing letters to different telecommunications agencies to make them see reasons as to why the community needs such facility.
“In cognisance of this, is the eventual installation of Airtel communication mast in the community while other telecommunications firms has given their assurances to the Senator of installing their facility in the community as well.
“We, however, find it absurd and mischievous to see media sensationalism concerning this issue.
“To get things in right perspective, Senator Oriolowo was never the one that arranged for the commissioning ceremony of the Mast, the commissioning was totally an idea of the members of the community in celebrating what they have been yearning for, for a long while before succour came for them through the collaborative efforts of the Senator and the telecommunication firm.
“The banner being bandied around was never produced from the Senator desk or by his directives to any of his Aides, it was equally the projection of the community members in excitement of seeing their several years of prayers answered.
“It is also worthy of note that the Senator was not physically present at the event but delegated some of his Aides and associates to the event since the community members were insistent of having him or any of his representative at the maiden event that broke a major jinx they’ve been praying and yearning for several decades.
“The banner that is causing public opprobrium from some certain elements, the word “facilitated by” was what was make use of and not “constructed by”. By this, the word facilitated by connotes different meaning from “construted by” the latter which is affirmative in context usage.
“A Senator that has several retinue of achievements to his record as a representative of his people at the upper chamber of the National Assembly will never gloat over such an event.
“Just last week, this same Senator is projecting to secure a Premier ICT Institute to the people of his constituency, it is this kind of project that the Senator might gloat over and not things of private business outfit even though the Installation of their facility was effected through his intervention.
“He never claimed it as his constituency project, let that be noted in strong terms.
“We want to inform the public that if there are no communication about events regarding the Senator from his recognised media channels or official Aides, such communication should please not be given concise attention in relation to the activities or engagements of the Senator.
“We enjoined our loving media friends and distinguished gentlemen of the Press to please avoid sensationalism in their reportage and also have a balance and fair reportage by making necessary enquiries from relevant quarters before going to the Press on any controversial or pressing issues.
