2023: Hon. Ozurigbo applauds Party, INEC and NASS over primary elections
The former Deputy Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly and member representing Nkwerre/ Nwangele/Isu/Njaba Federal Constituency, Ugonna Ozurigbo, has applauded the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for organizing a transparent, free and fair primary elections.
He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for its high level of preparedness in the conduct of the primary election.
The Lawmaker further appreciated the Ninth Assembly on the 2022 Electoral Act that was recently passed by both chambers, stating that if not for the painstaking electoral act, the primary election would have been a shadow of itself judging by the way it had been handled in Nigeria.
He gave the commendations while speaking with our Correspondent on the just concluded parties primaries across the country on Wednesday in Abuja.
It could be recalled that the incumbent Ozurigbo Ugonna who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), won the Nkwerre/Njaba/Isu/Nwangele ticket on the platform of the PDP, attributed his victory to effective representation in his political voyage.
“I have shown my people different ways to represent the them. I have shown them commitment and have represented them effectively for this past years.
Due to the factions in my former political party, I have to change my political party and within three months in my new political party I emerge victorious as a flagbearer in my constituency and believe God that He will continue to strengthen us to do greater things.
“Despite the fact that I ennerged the flag bearer in my constituency, I want to commend INEC in the conduct of the primaries.
“This primary I would say is one of the best Nigeria has had. The introduction of electronic voting, the BIVAS mechines, electronic transmission of results and every other aspects of it is well attended to by the INEC.
“Nigeria will be witnessing a free and fair election come 2023. I have to give credit to the INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who has maintained that it has to be a free and fair contest and I pray that he will maintain his stand.
Alot of preparation is on going among the citizens and INEC towards the general election. Alot of people are coming out to do their PVC and even the INEC Commissioner on Voters Education, Festus Okoye coming out to educate the people on the PVC.
“I see the people want to take the country back and I am in support and that is what I stand for; where you represent well and not having it as business as usual way of governance.
“I also appreciate the Ninth house because if not for the painstaking electoral act we have passed it could have been a shadow of itself.
“I believe that the electoral act provided guidelines for conducive and free contested primaries we had in Nigeria.
From the House of Assemblies, National Assembly to gubernatorial all the primaries were done according to the guidelines provided by the electoral act”, Ozurigbo mentioned.
