Nigerian Army Commends Plateau Rec
The General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Jos, Major General I. S Ali has commended the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Plateau state, Dr. Oliver Agundu for his dynamic approach in conducting the business of the office he occupies.
Receiving the REC and his management team who were at the headquarters of the division on a courtesy call, General Ali noted that it was unprecedented having a Resident Electoral Commissioner visiting the Division, preparatory to the general elections to seek synergy for a peaceful conduct.
The GOC emphatically stated that the proactive action of the REC is a testament of his seriousness and willingness to deliver a credible, transparent, free and fair election. He added that INEC should caution politicians against hate speech and campaign of calumny. He said it is the duty of the police to lead in the maintenance of law and order but he pledged to be supportive within the ambits of the law.
Earlier, Dr. Agundu stated that he led his team to visit the GOC and other top officers of the Division, in recognition of their sensitive role and the pride of place they occupy in the sustenance of the democratic process. He urged them to kindly make themselves available to the Commission when necessary.
The REC used the opportunity to intimate the GOC on the receipt of non-sensitive materials for the elections, display of preliminary Voters’ Register as well as the readiness of the Commission to conduct the general elections using BVAS. He informed the GOC of his planned tour of all the LGAs of the state and the GOC in response, assured him of security cover.
At the end of the visit, the GOC presented a complimentary plaque to the REC as a mark of honour.
