Ministry of Defence hosts seminar to enhance procurement skills, efficiency
In a move to improve efficiency and accountability, the Ministry of Defence has launched a three-day seminar focused on procurement audit, e-Procurement, Performance Management System (PMS), and Enterprise Content Management (ECM) for its procurement staff.
The seminar, announced in a statement from Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, aims to strengthen internal processes and ensure best practices in the Ministry’s procurement activities.
The event was formally opened by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, represented by Abdulrahman Suleiman, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics.
In his address, Dr. Kana urged participants to fully engage with the seminar, emphasizing its importance for enhancing staff morale and performance.
“The seminar’s topics reflect the full scope of public procurement—encompassing people, paperwork, and process,”
“In the Ministry of Defence, we analyze each component to ensure that procurement is guided by economy, efficiency, fairness, reliability, and ethical standards”, Kana said.
Acting Director of Procurement, Mr. Otalike Peter Yahaya, highlighted that the training would equip participants with the latest practices in procurement audits and investigations, enabling them to streamline processes, improve internal controls, and ultimately reduce costs.
“Implementing a Performance Management System in Procurement will allow the Ministry to better assess the skills and strengths of its employees, leading to greater efficiency,” Yahaya added.
The seminar drew participation from various directors within the Ministry, underscoring the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to cultivating a proficient and accountable procurement workforce.
