FRCN Diplomatic Editor Sandra Chukwugekwu bags outstanding achievement award
Senior broadcast journalist and Diplomatic Editor at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Sandra Chukwugekwu, has been honoured with the 2026 Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of her contributions to journalism, humanitarian service and national development.
The award was presented on Sunday during the Parish Laity Council Funfair at All Saints Catholic Church, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, where parishioners, media practitioners, family members and other guests gathered to celebrate her achievements.Speaking at the event, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Festus Okoye, described the honour as a fitting recognition of Chukwugekwu’s dedication to the Church, society and the journalism profession.
He commended her commitment to ethical reporting, community service and nation-building, noting that her influence extends beyond the newsroom.
“This honour is a well-deserved recognition of her immense contributions to the Church, humanity and the nation,” Okoye said.
The chairman of the occasion, Emmanuel Inja, also praised the veteran broadcaster for her consistency in promoting truth, accountability and responsible journalism throughout her career.According to him, Chukwugekwu’s professional excellence and unwavering commitment to public interest journalism have earned her admiration within and outside the media industry.
Organisers of the award said the FRCN manager has distinguished herself through insightful reporting on diplomacy, governance and development issues, while maintaining high standards of integrity and professionalism.
As Manager News and anchor of the current affairs programme Africa This Week, she has played a significant role in shaping public discourse through balanced and impactful reporting.Receiving the award, an emotional Chukwugekwu expressed gratitude to the church for the recognition, describing it as both an honour and a call to greater service.
“I am sincerely grateful to All Saints Catholic Church for this honour. It is deeply humbling, and I do not take it for granted. This award reminds me to continue serving with greater dedication, integrity and commitment to responsible journalism,” she said.
She pledged to remain committed to ethical journalism and public service broadcasting, adding that the recognition would motivate her to intensify efforts towards promoting truth, accountability and national development through the media.Chukwugekwu dedicated the award to God, her family, mentors and colleagues, acknowledging their support throughout her professional journey.
