NURTW to Make SSCE Qualifications Mandatory for All Drivers
The Minister of Communications, Dr. Abdur-Raheem Adeboye Shittu has charged the National Union of Road Transport Workers to make it compulsory for all drivers to have at least a Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) qualifications.
The minister was speaking with our Reporter at the 40 years anniversary celebration of the NURTW, held recently in Abuja.
He also tasked the leadership of the NURTW on continuous education of members of the driving profession to ensure a drastic reduction in road accident.
The minister mentioned that in the past, drivers were noted to be illiterates and disorganised, but NURTW has a sound leadership now and things are better organised.
Dr. Shittu, however, congratulated the NURTW on their 40th anniversary, adding that without the drivers people and merchandise can hardly move from one place to another.
