Adamawa lawmaker seeks Federal Government Intervention for flood victims in constituency
In a moved ameliorate the devadting effects of the flood, member Representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Honourable Kwamoti B. Laori has sought the intervention of Federal Government for victims in Adamawa State.
Honorable Laori who was on an assessment tour of communities affected by flood, also donated relief materials to victims recently.
The lawmaker had prior to his visit to the affected communities, drew the attention of the National Emergency Management Agency, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development and Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to the plight of his constituents affected by flood.
He had also paid advocacy visits to relevant Ministries, Department and Agencies seeking Intervention to mitigate and end the perennial flood disaster that has plagued the people of his constituency over the years.
Laori had mentioned that the consequences of flood on lives and livelihood which has become a usual occurrence during rainy season must be reduced to its bearest minimum.
Many of the affected inhabitants who could not hide their joy at his prompt and consistent response to their plight have continue to drum up support for the lawmaker, while commmending his efforts towards addressing the isssue of flood in the State.
It could be recalled that the member had severally moved motions on the floor of the green chamber on ‘Early Preparation to Mitigate Impact of Flood Disaster in The Benue Trough’, with a view to constructing a buffer dam at Dasin-Fufore LGA in order to reduce the volume of water released from Lagdo Dam.
In the same vein, the Adamawa lawmaker led the officials of the Ecological Project Office, Abuja to assess the level of damage done to affected communities.
The visiting team which comprise of Engineers and Surveyor were in Adamawa State to carry out a survey of communities affected by flood in Numan, Demsa and Lamurde LGAs with a view to developing a comprehensive engineering design that will mitigate the impact of flooding in the area.
On the team are: -Alhaji Ibrahim Salisu, Engr. Aminu Tofiq Biodun and Engr. Bilya Fana as well as some inhabitants of the communities.
They expressed optimism and hope that the annual disaster would soon be history given the level of interventions embarked upon by the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR).
Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori pledged to engage both legislative and extra- legislative means to ensure that flooding become a thing of the past.
The people commended the lawmaker for providing relief materials to victims and for the extra legislative effort he is making to prevent future occurrence.
The people who were visibly elated aplauded the initiative while pledging their continuous support and solidarity to the lawmaker.
Hon. Laori appealed to the people to remain prayerful and hopeful for better days ahead
