Akpabio frowns at NASC over insecurity at NASS complex
The15th President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has frown at the filthy environment and insecurity that has become the order of the day at the National Assembly complex even as the10th NASS settle down for legislative work.
He averred that Indeed, lawmakers are no longer safe because of the activities of hoodlums who ordinarily have no business in the complex but have taken over the complex with their nefarious activities, stating that lawmakers have lost their personal valuables to these miscreants who position themselves at strategic positions around the premisses.
Particularly, he expressed great displeasure with the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) for prioritizing welfare over secured and healthy environment.
This came to the fore when he played host to the management of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) who were in his office on Friday for a thank you visit.
While reacting to an address by the chairman of NASC, Engr. Ahmed Amshi who said that the commission is facing difficulty in the payment of allowances of staff, the President of the Senate had this to say, “We are aware that the entire complex is under renovation. We must also look after the environment. It is not all about staff”.
He also added that, “We will like to see a cleaner environment and secured complex”.
Giving a general perspective to the challenges at hand, he said that, a lot of senators have lost their telephones because of influx of people into the complex.
He emphasized that the National Assembly is the symbol of democracy, stressing that the 10th Senate is poise to make a landmark through legislation.
He however harped on the environment and security of the complex.
Earlier, Amshi congratulated the President of the Senate and the Deputy President of the Senate, saying that they are experienced public officers.
He appealed to lawmakers to send the list of their legislative aides for documentation.
