Defence Minister calls for deeper security collaboration with EU
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has emphasized the need for deeper collaboration between Nigeria and its international partners on matters of security and defence.
This call was made during a courtesy visit by Mr. Casmin Dirban, Director of Peace Partnership and Crisis Management at the European External Action Service in Brussels, to the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.
A statement signed by Sani Datti, on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations, noted that the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in tackling terrorism and banditry in Nigeria and the wider West African region.
Badaru highlighted the importance of identifying new areas of strategic partnership to bolster Nigeria’s defence capabilities. He stressed that intentional efforts must be made to strengthen existing ties and expand collaborative opportunities.
Mr. Dirban, who was accompanied by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, acknowledged the current bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security initiatives through stronger partnerships.
