Defence Minister urges intensified efforts against terrorists, bandits
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to maximize the use of their advanced platforms to decisively end the challenges of banditry and terrorism in the country.
The Minister made this call during an operational visit to the Air Component of Sector 2, Operation Hadarin Daji, in Katsina State on Monday, November 18, 2024.
In a statement signed by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, Badaru emphasized the Air Force’s pivotal role in the fight against insecurity.
“You are key to this fight, and we must put our acts together to end this war,” he said, urging synergy between the NAF, ground forces, and other stakeholders.
The Minister commended the Air Force for its resilience and sacrifices, acknowledging their heroic contributions to restoring normalcy in affected areas.
“Your efforts are yielding positive results as farmers are gradually returning to their farms, schools are reopening, businesses are picking up, and Nigerians can now sleep peacefully,” he said.
Badaru also conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s confidence in the Air Force’s loyalty, professionalism, and perseverance.
He highlighted the federal government’s investment in state-of-the-art aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, including the newly inducted T129 Attack Helicopters.
These advanced platforms, he noted, would enhance the Air Force’s attack capabilities and solidify Nigeria’s security.
The Minister’s visit to Katsina coincided with the flag-off of a critical phase of operations.
He later proceeded to Sokoto to inspect the combat readiness of Air Force personnel and facilities. During the visit, he toured the proposed site for the permanent base of the newly established Air Force component of military operations at Sokoto Airport.
Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, expressed appreciation for the Minister’s leadership, noting that the T129 Attack Helicopters will significantly transform their operational capabilities.
“This is a clear message to those who think they can destabilize our nation,” he said.
The Minister’s visits underline the government’s commitment to strengthening military operations and ensuring peace and stability across the country.
