FG clears Matawalle of All banditry allegations
The Federal Government officially exonerated Bello Muhammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, of allegations linking him to banditry activities in Zamfara State.
After thorough investigations led by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the government concluded that the allegations against Matawalle were baseless, politically motivated, and unsubstantiated.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, the NSA’s investigation into the claims found them to be “mere fabrications.”
Speaking on Arise TV, Onanuga noted that these accusations were unfounded and seemed intended to discredit Matawalle, potentially to influence his role in the government.
“As far as I know, most of those things are just mere allegations,” he stated, emphasizing that Matawalle’s continued position in the cabinet is a testament to his commitment to national security.
Onanuga also commented on the broader implications of the recent cabinet reshuffle, indicating that public perception played a crucial role.
“People are just bringing out all kinds of fake things and allegations.
“That is why the man Matawalle is still in the cabinet. The President, I am sure, has heard many stories about him,” he added. Onanuga asserted that any baseless claims against the Minister have been investigated and dismissed.
Matawalle’s tenure has seen significant strides in security improvements across Nigeria’s North-West region, and his recent operational visit to Sokoto demonstrated his dedication to addressing insecurity.
Among his achievements was the elimination of Halilu Sububu, a notorious bandit leader, alongside several of his lieutenants, through operations coordinated by the Minister.
With growing evidence of his commitment, Matawalle’s supporters have called for an apology from those who leveled the unproven allegations.
They argue that the campaign of falsehoods, aimed at undermining the Minister, only serves to distract from the fight against insecurity.
Matawalle’s leadership, they contend, has brought substantial advancements in tackling insurgency and ensuring regional stability.
As the Federal Government concludes its investigation, stakeholders urge critics to channel their energy into supporting the nation’s security efforts, fostering unity, and promoting Nigeria’s progress.
