FG reaffirms commitment to ending banditry, enhances military capacity in Sokoto
The Federal Government has reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating banditry and restoring peace in Nigeria’s North-West region.
This assurance came from the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, during his visit to Sokoto State on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Dr. Matawalle, speaking during a series of security engagements, highlighted recent government efforts to bolster military operations in the region.
The Minister witnessed the handover of critical military equipment and received briefings on recent successes in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
At a ceremony held at the Sokoto State Government House, the Minister oversaw the formal transfer of 10 operational vehicles to military forces.
The donation, consisting of eight Buffalo trucks and two Toyota Hilux vehicles, was provided by the Sokoto State Government to support counter-insurgency efforts. Praising the state’s ongoing commitment.
“The security of our nation demands a collective effort at every level. The Sokoto State Government has consistently demonstrated its dedication to this cause.
“These vehicles will greatly improve the operational capacity of our forces across the region”, Matawalle noted.
The Minister emphasized that the newly acquired fleet would significantly enhance the mobility and effectiveness of troops responding to security threats across the region.
Following the handover, Matawalle received a detailed briefing from the Air Component of Joint Operation Hadarin Daji.
The Minister expressed admiration for the recent precision and success of air and ground operations, which have led to the neutralization of key bandit leaders.
He commended the forces for their professionalism, stating, “Your achievements are a testament to your dedication.
The Federal Government will not relent in providing the support you need to sustain these victories. We will not rest until peace is fully restored in the North-West.”
The visit underscored the Federal Government’s resolve to continue supporting military efforts aimed at eliminating banditry and stabilizing the North-West region.
