FG strengthens Partnership with Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition
The Federal Government of Nigeria has renewed its commitment to counter-terrorism efforts across West Africa and the broader African region, pledging its full support for the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC). This pledge was made by the Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, during a meeting with a delegation from the IMCTC, led by Major General Mohammed bin Saleem Al-Moghidi of Saudi Arabia, at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement signed by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, the Minister expressed Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate closely with the IMCTC in tackling terrorism. “We are ready and willing to work with you hand in hand to achieve the set objectives,” Badaru said. “When we talk about counter-terrorism today, we must critically look at West Africa and Africa in general. The region is bleeding, and we will support any action aimed at countering these threats. Countries in this region need substantial support.”
By backing the IMCTC, Nigeria underscores its dedication to regional and global security, advocating for collective action as a vital strategy in fighting terrorism.
Major General Al-Moghidi, leader of the IMCTC delegation, acknowledged the longstanding bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that the visit aimed to deepen collaboration through intelligence sharing, training, and joint strategic efforts against terrorism.
The Federal Government’s reaffirmed commitment marks another step in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to address security challenges in the region and bolster its role in collective anti-terrorism initiatives.
