FG to make studies of security and intelligence compulsory in secondary schools
With a view to enhancing the level of information on national security, Honourable Ali Abdullahi Ibrahim (Halims) has presented a Bill for an act to Provide for Compulsory Teaching of Security and Intelligence in the Syllabuses of Secondary Schools in Nigeria.
The bill, which passes second reading in the House of Representatives on Thursday is intended to correct the lapses in the national security.
Speaking with our Correspondent shortly after the Plenary, Hon. Ibrahim said that this bill is now in the act of the parliament.
“Our major problem in this country is education. Once a person is educated he knows a lot of things. Lack of education has caused a lot of problems and so many things across the nation.
“Insecurity has caused a lot problem for our people and that is because of fundamental lack of knowledge of what security is all about.
“So, this is bringing the attention of government and the parliament to the fact that security and intelligent studies comes into the syllabuses of our secondary schools.
“This will go a long way in dealing with the issues of insecurity as far as this country is concerned. This is also done in other civilized countries”, he stated.
The lawmaker also added that bills pass through processes; it has gone through first reading and today it has passed through second reading and it has been referred to the relevant committees of the house for further legislative action.
“All things being equal, we are confident that the committees will do justice to it in no distance time, due to the relevance of subject matter to national security, the needful will be done”, hon. Ibrahim said.
He further said that effort are measured by output and have come this far, and all the necessary inputs he has willbe made in order to make sure that this bill becomes an act for the intention it is meant to serve.
“A bill does not become a law just by second reading we will make sure that we follow all the due processes to ensure that it become useful to the society”, he insisted.
Honourable Ibrahim is representing Ankpa/ Omala/ Olamaboro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
