I don’t want Nigerians to be jumping at every aid -Sen. Oseni
Senator Oseni Yakubu, Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial district in the National Assembly has said that Nigeria cannot be jumping at every aid that comes into the country.
The lawmaker said this during an interview session with our correspondent on Wednesday in Abuja.
In his words: “Our position is to scrutinize all the aid coming into the country. To look at it holistically so that Nigeria will not be used as a dumping ground in the name of aid or grants.
“Nigeria is well endowed and rich enough to be jumping at every aid that is coming. There is no free meal and so those grants must be scrutinized. We also charge the ministries and agencies in charge of aid to scrutinize them before they are accepted.
“The major aim of grants is not just for insecurity per say. It come in form of health, education and other areas. But the issues is not the support given by other countries to fight insecurity. We are talking about the aid that are brought in by NGOs. If other smaller countries are jumping at it, Nigeria does not have any reason to do that because we have everything it takes to be a great nation”.
On the closure of border, Senator Oseni said that he closure of is temporary.
“The security of this nation lies with Mr President and he has every right to look at any way that can help in solving security challenges. We also looked at the prons and cons and discovered that there are reasons.
“The key reason is the insecurity. We have 89 legal boarders and over a hundred illegal boarders. We charge the agents on the boarders to do more to ensure that the borders are not to completely closed”, he stated.
He also stated that Governor Yahaya Bello has done well to deserve a second term.
“No meaningful Igala person is agitating that power should be returned to east. we are just in power for one tenure, the state belong to all of us and for that I don’t think there is any reasonable person that will be agitating for power to be returned to the east.
“Of course we are in politics and there are other political parties with candidates but the truth remains there is no vacancy in lugard house.
“He has done well in bringing together the people of the state. There are so many jobs going on in the state. It is just that the governor is not a social media person. He believes in bringing the dividence of democracy to the grass root.
“The talk about unpaid salary is a social media talk. No genuine civil servant in the state will tell you that he is not taking salary. We just received the last batch of the bail out funds last two months, it is only the ghost workers that are crying because they have been exposed.
“To implement any meaningful policy, you must touch people and you also consider the prons and cons. If the advantages is more than the disadvantages, you go ahead. Any meaningful policy must affect people”, he said.

The lawmaker further said that there are a lot of programs in the pipeline for his senatorial district.
“My people know me and know what I can do for them. They know that I am a fighter and can fight for them. Just recently we were at home for empowerment in ICT and there are other such programs as youth and women empowerment, job creation and so on.
“If I will say something on security, I will be totally different. Insecurity has direct corroboration with idleness, poverty and unemployment.
If you like use the whole budget of this country on insecurity it will continue to be on the rise. To effectively fight insecurity, they should be empowerment in areas as ICT.
ICT for instance can engage millions of youth and there is no way youth are gainfully engaged and still get involved in criminalities.
“It is those that are completely hopeless that look in the direction of criminalities”, Sen. Oseni stated.
