Jigawa APC denounces smear campaign targeting party leaders
The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over what it describes as a coordinated smear campaign by individuals attempting to create division within the party.
According to a statement signed by the APC’s Jigawa State Chairman, Aminu Sani Gumel, these efforts are being driven by people who are not card-carrying members of the party, alongside a few internal members with narrow motives.
The APC’s leadership in Jigawa has been monitoring what it claims are calculated efforts on social media and in mainstream media to destabilize the party through false accusations and divisive narratives.

Gumel’s statement accused these unnamed individuals of using “sinister” means to tarnish the reputation of senior APC figures, including Governor Malam Umar Namadi and the Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
The statement emphasized that the Jigawa State APC administration under Governor Namadi is committed to continuing the legacy of the previous administration led by former Governor Badaru, who is widely respected within the party.
Both leaders, according to the statement, enjoy the confidence of the party and are regarded as vital figures in upholding stability and trust within the APC.
Gumel particularly addressed what he described as “sponsored” and “flabbergasting” accusations against Minister Abubakar.
He noted that the minister was instrumental in the APC’s success during the 2023 general elections as the party’s Northern Region Campaign Coordinator, a role in which he was pivotal to delivering Jigawa and the northern region for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Describing the accusations as “childish” and “silly,” Gumel reaffirmed that the Jigawa APC is determined to pursue legal and political measures to identify those behind the campaign.
“Jigawa APC will use all necessary avenues within the ambit of law to fish out the group and their sponsors for appropriate political and legal action that will serve as a deterrent to others,” the statement read.
The Jigawa APC assures that it will not allow any attempt to disrupt the progress of its government or hinder the fulfillment of its campaign promises, both in the state and across Nigeria.
