New book explores pathways to curb insecurity, poverty in Nigeria
A new book titled “Stemming the Tide of Insecurity and Poverty in Nigeria” has been released, offering fresh perspectives and practical strategies for tackling two of the nation’s most pressing challenges, insecurity and poverty.
Authored by Dr. Assey Ita Etim Nkat, the publication examines the root causes, interconnected dynamics, and long-term implications of insecurity and poverty on Nigeria’s socio-economic stability.
It also proposes policy-driven solutions for government, private sector, and civil society actors to work collaboratively toward sustainable national development.
According to Dr. Nkat, the book was written out of a deep concern for Nigeria’s rising insecurity and widening poverty gap, issues that continue to affect millions of citizens and threaten national cohesion.
He emphasizes that addressing these challenges requires more than reactive measures, it demands a comprehensive, multi-sectoral approach anchored on good governance, education, youth empowerment, and equitable resource management.
The author highlights how insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes have compounded unemployment, food insecurity, and economic hardship, urging policymakers to adopt a people-centred strategy that prioritizes security, transparency, and inclusion.
“Insecurity and poverty are not isolated problems; they feed off each other. We cannot end one without addressing the other. The time has come for Nigeria to implement bold, evidence-based interventions that empower citizens and rebuild trust in our institutions”, Nkat noted.
“Stemming the Tide of Insecurity and Poverty in Nigeria” also explores global examples of successful anti-poverty and security models, drawing lessons that can be localized to suit Nigeria’s unique socio-political environment.
The book has been lauded by academics, policymakers, and development practitioners as a timely contribution to national discourse, particularly as the country seeks to reposition its economy and strengthen internal security under ongoing reforms.
Copies of the book are now available for sale on Amazon and other online stores, providing easy access to readers within and outside Nigeria.
Dr. Assey Ita Etim Nkat, a scholar and development advocate, brings years of research experience and policy insight to bear in this publication, one that many believe could help shape the roadmap for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
