Nigeria has stepped onto the global aerospace stage with renewed confidence as the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, represented the country at the opening of the Dubai Airshow 2025, one of the world’s most influential gatherings for the aviation, space, and defence industries.
The airshow, inaugurated on Monday by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Emir of Dubai and Vice-President/Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, brought together government officials, defence chiefs, innovators, and global leaders in aerospace manufacturing.
Minister Badaru attended the opening ceremony alongside Air Vice Marshal AY Abdullahi, who represented the Chief of the Air Staff. Together, they led Nigeria’s participation on Day 1, touring advanced aircraft display stands, aerospace technology exhibitions, and key facilities operated by some of the world’s top defence manufacturers.
A statement from Mati Ali, Media and Publicity Aide to the Minister of Defence, said the airshow offers Nigeria a strategic opportunity to deepen global partnerships and showcase the country’s ongoing progress in defence innovation.
“The Nigerian delegation aims to highlight the nation’s advancements in defence technology, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to participating actively in global defence discussions and collaborations,” the statement noted.
The Dubai Airshow, held biennially, is widely regarded as a premier global platform where countries and companies unveil next-generation aviation technologies, negotiate partnerships, and strengthen international defence cooperation.
Nigeria’s presence at the event underscores the government’s commitment to modernising its military capabilities, expanding defence industry collaborations, and positioning the country as an active player in global security and aerospace innovation.
