NIPR wants Nigeria’s leadership problem resolved
The National Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), FCT chapter wants the teething problem of leadership facing the country resolved permanently.
The Chairman of the NIPR, FCT chapter, Dr. Tayo Haastrup was speaking at the Annual General Meeting organised by the institute in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Haastrup, the theme of the conference, ‘The Leadership Question: Search for 21st Century Leaders’ is apt as it provides the opportunity to gather professionals and discuss the issue of leadership which has remained in major challenge in Nigeria as well as Africa.
He noted that the conference was a veritable platform to share thoughts on the nature of leadership Nigerians must look out for.
“If we are to have hope of resolving our huge national issue such as poverty, gender inequality and political fragmentation, we need 21st century leadership in Nigeria”, he insisted.
Other stakeholders who spoke at conference also reiterated the need for a 21st century leaders.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, who was at the conference, stated that beyond the renaming of the ministry, efforts are in top gear to ensure the development and implementation of digital economy strategy.
“I have been working on a draft and intend to get Stakeholders to review the strategies and policies on ground in order to start the process of implementation.
We also want to ensure that many Nigerians are trained on digital literacy, make sure that broadband penetration and internet accessibility are increased and affordable.
“We are working on a legislative framework to protect online businesses”, he stated.
NIPR is saddled with the responsibility of regulating the practice of public relations as well as manage the image of the nation.
