Senator Olujimi replaces Smart Adeyemi as Aviation C’tee chair
Lawmaker representing Ekiti South Senatorial District in the Red Chamber, Senator Biodun Olujimi has been appointed aa the Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation.
Senator Olujimi by this appointment, replaced Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC Kogi West).
Speaking shortly with newsmen shortly after the plenary on Tuesday, she charged all stakeholders on deliberate efforts to ensure that aviation sector does not collapse.
She noted that the sector is crucial in in the fight against insecurity situation of the country, affirming that National Assembly would work all stakeholders in aviation sector to surmount the problem.
Before her appointment, Senator Olujimi was Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and Inter – Governmental Agencies.
While fielding questions from Journalists, Senator Olujimi noted that there are serous challenges in the sector presently which requires immediate action, adding that they must do everything to ensure that it stays afloat by giving it whatever it takes to keep it afloat.
“We can’t allow avaition to fail, we can’t, because that is the only way by which we can move around the globe, with the present insecurity problem we all are witnessing, is only through aviation we can survive, we will work together, we will be proactive about it.
“There are serous challenges in the sector presently which requires immediate action adding that coupled with the security situation of the country, aviation is the only available means to surmount the problem, so avaition must not collapse, we must do everything to ensure that it stays afloat, and whatever it needs to get it afloat, we must bring it to bear.
“I believe I will also drawn from the experience of my predecessor who is my borther, we share the same constituency, his constituency is immediately after mine, so we will work together, I will tap into his knowledge and we will be able to work it out.
“I have been in the committee from inception and I know what is happening there. What they have done is to ask me to now supervise and what is important is that I oversight all the agencies in the sector and then ministry itself.
“As at now he had done well because he’s been able to stem most of the problems in the bud but there are serious challenges right now which we will sit together and iron out.
“And I know that with the ministry at the hem of affairs with a former Senator would be good to work with because he knows his onions and he is going to work hard to ensure that we make success of the assignment” she stressed.
The lawmaker expressed her appreciation to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan for the opportunity to serve.
The Lawmaker also clinched the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for the South Senatorial District of Ekiti State.
If elected Olujimi, who got the ticket through affirmation as a consensus candidate following the withdrawal of her co-contestant and former House of Representatives member, Segun Adekola, would be in the National Assembly thrice – as a Representatives member and twice as senator.
