Tinubu approves military salary increase, pays three months’ arrears, pension backlog
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive efforts in improving the welfare of military personnel.
In a statement issued by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, Abuja, Dr. Matawalle expressed gratitude to the President for ensuring the prompt payment of a salary increase for military personnel along with three months’ arrears, as well as the release of funds for pensions and other entitlements owed to retired officers.
Dr. Matawalle confirmed that alerts for the three-month salary increment have already begun reaching military personnel.
He described the gesture as a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of both active and retired members of the Armed Forces, adding that pension arrears and other outstanding payments will continue to be prioritized.
The Minister further acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, in actualizing the payments. He lauded Mr. Edun for his unwavering support in ensuring the timely disbursement of funds.
Dr. Matawalle urged members of the Nigerian military to remain steadfast in their duties, reassuring them of President Tinubu’s dedication to boosting their morale and providing the necessary resources to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
“Despite initial setbacks, be assured that Mr. President is fully committed to uplifting our military forces as they confront the challenges of insecurity,” he stated.
Highlighting the critical contributions of the military in the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and other criminal activities, the Minister emphasized the importance of supporting the men and women who risk their lives to safeguard the nation.
Dr. Matawalle reiterated President Tinubu’s resolve to eradicate insecurity in Nigeria, vowing continued support for the military’s efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
