Tinubu pays surprise visit to troops in Katsina, vows stronger support for military
In a bold and symbolic move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday made an unannounced visit to frontline troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Katsina State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to ending insecurity and boosting troop morale.
The rare visit, conducted without the traditional high-level military entourage, allowed the President to directly assess the security situation and gain firsthand insight into the operations of the armed forces battling terrorism and banditry in the region.
A statement signed by Patience Ituke on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations confirmed the visit.
Addressing the troops, President Tinubu praised their courage and sacrifice, describing their mission as central to the survival and future of Nigeria.
“The fight you are waging here in Katsina and across the country is not just a battle for territory; it is a battle for the soul of Nigeria,” Tinubu said. “Nigeria depends on you, and I am with you today, tomorrow, and always. Stay strong. Stay focused.”
He described the soldiers as the “shield of Nigeria,” lauding their bravery in the face of relentless threats.
“Every inch of ground you hold, every terrorist you neutralize, and every community you secure is a victory for justice, freedom, and the future of our children,” he said.
The President acknowledged the hardships faced by military personnel, including time away from family and the risks of combat, which he said represent the highest form of patriotism.
Reassuring the troops of improved welfare and operational support, Tinubu pledged major investments in military capacity.
“We are taking bold steps to equip you with advanced technology, superior intelligence, and robust logistical support… Your welfare is my top priority,” he stated.
He listed initiatives such as timely payment of allowances, healthcare access, insurance schemes, improved housing, and family support programs as part of the government’s efforts to improve the lives of service members and their families.
In his closing remarks, the President warned those attempting to destabilize the country, stating:
“To those who seek to destabilize our nation—be they domestic collaborators or foreign agents—hear this: Nigeria will not bow. Not to fear. Not to terror. Not to treachery.”
President Tinubu’s visit marks a significant gesture of solidarity with the armed forces and sends a strong message of national resolve in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
