2027: Tinubu will win convincingly if allowed to complete reforms, says Matawalle
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a convincing victory in the 2027 presidential election if allowed to complete his ongoing reform agenda, calling on Nigerians and political stakeholders to rally behind the administration rather than engage in premature political battles.
Dr. Matawalle made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at his residence in Abuja, where he expressed strong support for President Tinubu’s leadership and policies.
He urged Nigerians to give the President the political space required to consolidate reforms targeted at economic stabilisation, institutional strengthening and national unity.
The minister condemned what he described as growing political manoeuvres aimed at undermining the Tinubu administration, warning that such actions are driven by personal ambition rather than national interest.
According to him, early power struggles and factional politics pose a threat to democratic stability and distract government from the task of governance.
“President Tinubu has taken bold and necessary steps to stabilise the economy and strengthen national institutions.
“Those plotting to unseat him are motivated by self-interest, not by the public good. If the President is allowed to complete his reform programme, I am confident he will win convincingly in the 2027 election”, Matawalle said.
He noted that despite the challenges associated with far-reaching reforms, there have been signs of progress across different parts of the country, particularly in the North, which he attributed to the President’s policies and leadership direction.
Matawalle argued that sustained support for the administration would yield more tangible benefits for Nigerians in the areas of security, economic growth and institutional resilience.
The defence minister also called on political actors to embrace constructive engagement rather than tactics that could destabilise the polity.
He stressed the need for unity and collective responsibility at a time when the country is navigating complex economic and security challenges.
“Let us focus on solutions that deliver real benefits to Nigerians, jobs, improved security and stronger institutions—rather than rancour and short-term political gains,” he added.
Matawalle’s comments come amid increasing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates intensifying over the direction of governance and the pace of ongoing reforms under the Tinubu administration.
