BON applauds Defence Minister for progress in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity
The Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) has praised the Minister of Defence, Honourable Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, for the substantial progress recorded in the ongoing battle against insecurity across the nation.
This commendation follows a series of victories by the Armed Forces of Nigeria over insurgents, bandits, and other criminal elements.
The recognition was announced in a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, following a courtesy visit by BON representatives to the Minister’s office at Ship House, Abuja.
During the visit, High Chief Tony Akiotu, Vice Chairman of BON, who represented the Chairman, Comrade Salihu Dembos, lauded the Minister’s strategic leadership in combating insecurity.
Akiotu emphasized that the collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and security agencies has played a crucial role in reducing insurgency and banditry.
“The new collaboration has helped curb insurgents and banditry across the country,” he said.
He further acknowledged the efforts of the Armed Forces, stating that BON, as a leading media body with over 500 licensed television and radio stations, has observed the consistent victories being recorded against insecurity.
“The Armed Forces have continued to arrest high-profile bandits, and their strategies, both kinetic and non-kinetic, have been highly effective,” Akiotu remarked.
In response, the Minister of Defence expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the significant strides made by the military in restoring security across the nation.
He noted the importance of synergy between the Armed Forces and other security agencies in achieving these successes.
“Our Armed Forces have demonstrated unparalleled commitment in addressing the security challenges we face, and we are witnessing significant victories,” said Abubakar.
The Minister also praised the media for its role in shaping national discourse on security issues and stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the Defence Ministry and media organizations like BON.
He expressed readiness to work closely with BON to promote national security through training and capacity-building initiatives. “Together, we can harness the power of radio and television to inform, educate, and promote security objectives,” he added.
