Defence Minister Commends 146 Battalion for Safeguarding Key Oil Infrastructure
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has praised the 146 Battalion (Main) Bonny Island for its unwavering efforts in securing critical national assets, including the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP).
During his inaugural visit to the Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe, the Minister commended the battalion’s officers for their role in protecting vital oil infrastructure and combating economic sabotage.
In a statement issued by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, the Minister lauded the battalion’s success in maintaining security around the TNP.
“The successes recorded in protecting the TNP in your area of responsibility demonstrate the excellent work you are doing. “The maximum protection of the pipelines under your watch is commendable, and I urge you to sustain it”, Badaru stated
He further acknowledged the battalion’s ongoing efforts in curbing oil theft, intercepting illegal refineries, and ensuring the smooth operation of the TNP, which is crucial for Nigeria’s crude oil transportation.
“It is gratifying to see that the TNP has no encumbrances. I urge your unit to maintain this achievement,” the Minister added.
Lieutenant Colonel OA Oyewumi, Officer Commanding of the 146 Battalion, provided the Minister with a comprehensive briefing on the battalion’s operations, emphasizing the importance of protecting the TNP and other key oil installations.
He highlighted the battalion’s accomplishments in thwarting pipeline vandalism and maintaining the integrity of national infrastructure.
The visit reinforces the government’s commitment to supporting the military in its efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, a critical driver of the nation’s economy.
