CPCN will Reduce Social Vices in the country- Prof Omotunde
The President, Counseling Association of Nigeria, Mrs Elizabeth Omotunde Egbochukwu, said that the Counseling Practitioners council of Nigeria, has the capacity to curb social vices in the country.
Professor Ebochukwu said this at a one day public hearing on the Bill for an Act to Establish the Counseling Practitioners of Nigeria (CPCN), organized by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Services.
She stated that CPCN is to regulate counseling profession, conduct qualifying examinations and determine standard of knowledge and skills required of persons seeking to become members of the counseling profession.
The Bill is essential, given the need to professionalise the practice, as it provides a legal framework for the general operations of counseling.
“The council is expected to be a corporate body that will assist individual, corporate bodies to explore their environment, discover their strength and weaknesses in order to enable them achieve their goals”, she stated.
Ebochukwu also stated that the services of the council will be needed in critical areas of national interest, thereby assisting in enhancing peaceful co-existence and national development.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Senator Paulker Emmanuel, however, postponed the public hearing in order to identify with the an embattled colleague, Senator Dino Melaye, who was hospitalized.
