Vickyheldan hosts Abuja masterclass to strengthen Africa’s interior design industry, promote creative entrepreneurship
Luxury interior design firm, Vickyheldan Interior Design & Architecture, has hosted the Abuja edition of its annual Business of Interior Design Masterclass 2026, bringing together industry professionals and creative entrepreneurs to explore strategies for building sustainable and profitable businesses within Africa’s growing creative economy.
The event, held under the theme, “How to Build a Successful & Profitable Interior Design Company,” marked the third edition of the continental initiative and attracted architects, interior designers, furniture manufacturers, project managers, home fragrance specialists and other stakeholders in the design ecosystem.
Organisers said the masterclass was designed to equip participants with the entrepreneurial, financial and leadership skills required to transform creative talent into globally competitive enterprises.
The programme, endorsed by the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, forms part of the broader Mastery with Vickyheldan initiative, which focuses on mentoring and developing Africa’s next generation of creative business leaders through education, innovation and strategic collaboration.
Speaking at the event, the Convener of the Masterclass and Chief Executive Officer of Vickyheldan Interior Design & Architecture, Dr. Victory Ifeoma Njoku, said the future of Africa’s design industry depends not only on creativity but also on the ability of practitioners to build structured and profitable businesses.
She noted that while many creatives possess exceptional talent, long-term success increasingly requires sound business knowledge, strategic planning and effective brand positioning.
According to her, the initiative seeks to help participants move beyond passion by developing strong business systems, identifying profitable market opportunities and positioning their brands to compete internationally.
“The future of Africa’s design industry lies in our ability to build structured, profitable and globally competitive businesses. Through this platform, we are empowering creatives to move beyond passion by developing strong business systems, identifying profitable niches, positioning their brands strategically, and building companies capable of competing on the global stage,” she said.
Dr. Njoku described the endorsement by the Ghanaian Presidency’s Diaspora Affairs Office as a significant milestone for the initiative, saying it reinforces the vision of raising a new generation of African design entrepreneurs capable of driving innovation and economic growth across the continent.
She added that the recognition further strengthens the platform’s commitment to creating an environment where creativity is complemented by business excellence and global competitiveness.
Participants at the Abuja masterclass received practical insights from leading industry experts, including global banking professional and wealth strategist Aisha Amirah Adedeji, who challenged creative entrepreneurs to place greater emphasis on financial management as a critical component of business success.
Adedeji urged participants to embrace financial discipline, strategic investment, profitability and long-term wealth creation, stressing that technical excellence alone is insufficient for building enduring businesses.
The masterclass also featured sessions on business development, leadership, branding, customer experience, pricing strategies, organisational systems and positioning African design brands for international relevance.
Organisers said the programme is intended to bridge the gap between creative expertise and business management, enabling professionals to build resilient companies capable of competing in the global marketplace.
Following the Abuja edition, the Business of Interior Design Masterclass will continue its continental tour with a programme in Asaba on July 11 before moving to Accra, Ghana, on July 23.
The Accra edition will feature Dr. Daniel Moses, Chairman of Property Wealth Cooperation UK, while the grand finale is scheduled to hold in Johannesburg, South Africa, on September 17.
The South African event is expected to bring together prominent business leaders, including Lebo Gunguluza, Chairman of GEM Group and a digital transformation strategist, alongside Boitsheko Ganyane, Chief Executive Officer of Distinguished Living South Africa.
As the initiative expands across Africa, organisers say it is evolving beyond a professional development programme into a continental movement aimed at strengthening Africa’s creative industries through entrepreneurship, strategic leadership and business innovation.
They said the long-term objective is to empower designers and architects with the commercial knowledge and entrepreneurial mindset needed to establish globally respected brands that contribute meaningfully to economic development.
Through the Mastery with Vickyheldan initiative, Dr. Njoku said she remains committed to promoting a future in which African creativity is recognised not only for its artistic excellence but also for its commercial success, global competitiveness and lasting economic impact.
