Capacity building is the process of developing legislative institutions”-Reps Clerk
The Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Ahmed Amshi said it is committed to building capacity for staff to enhance them to perform optimally.
He stated this in Abuja at the opening of a three-day capacity building for staff of the House of Representatives. The theme of the workshop is ‘Enhancing Capacity for Legislative Services’.
The Chairman noted that capacity building for staff cannot be overemphasized and promised to continue to develop the staff through continuous training.
On his part, the Clerk of the House of Representatives Dr Yahaya DanZaria explained that law making can only be successful with support of legislative staff.
“In the legislature, capacity building is the process of developing an strengthening the skulls of officers that the legislative institution need to survive and compete favourably with other parliaments across the globe. It is on this note that I will continue to thank the Hon. Speaker fomm siving us the encouragement to empower ourselves.
“Today is the beginning of another three day workshop focusing on “ENHANCING CAPACITY FOR LEGISLATIVE SERVICES”. This workshop targets the core legislative officers in the areas of Chamber Services,Table Duties, Rules and Business, Legislative Scrutiny and Committee System among others. We are of the view that apart from the general training in Legislative Practice and Procedure which accommodates every staff of the legislature, there is need to focus on those key and peculiar areas of legislative activities that only trained officers have the capacity to handle”.
