10th NASS is a corrective assembly -Senator Olalere
The Deputy Minority Leader and the Senator representing Osun West in the Senate, Olalere Oyewumi has said that , the 10th Assembly is a “Corrective Assembly” ,as such all the percieved shortcomings of the previous assemblies would be tackled headlong.
He made this position known while fielding questions from members of the National Assembly New Media Forum who were in his office to know his stand on topical national issues.
According to the lawmarker, the issue of legislative oversight of government MDAs and parastals is on top of the agenda that the 10th Senate has set for itself.
He posited that the committee on legislative compliance of the Senate will see to it that all resolutions passed by the Senate are carried out to the letter, and when that’s is not going to happen, Nigerians can be able to pinpoint where to place the blame, saying that, gone are the days when oversight was carried out solely for the benefit of the lawmarkers.
On the dissatisfaction that has been expressed from some quarters about how the principal officers of the 10th Senate emerged, he said that every body was carried along, signatures senators were recieved and the party also made inputs. There was nothing like favouring one group or section of the country against another, but the positions were evenly distributed.
With respect to the issue of the opposition political parties giving a rubost opposition to the rulling party, he said that the opposition party will always keep the rulling party on its toes for them to formulate and implement masses benefial policies, so that at the end of the day the product they have will speak for them.
About what his constituents should expect from him, he was very modest by saying that he should be assessed at the end of his four years as nobody di-market his product. He also said it is not by mistake that he received 137,000 votes to represent his district, but had been one of the longest serving local government chairmen in Nigeria and he also served as a federal commissioner at National Population Commission, he vowed not to disappoint his people at the end of the day.
