FG pledges unwavering efforts to restore peace in North-West
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has reassured the people of Nigeria’s North-West region that the Federal Government is fully committed to restoring peace in the area.
This pledge was made during a security assessment tour of Sokoto State, as part of ongoing efforts to address the region’s security challenges.
According to a statement signed by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Matawalle emphasized that the government will not relent until lasting peace is achieved across Nigeria.
During his visit to Gundumi village, the Minister promised that the long-closed Gundumi-Isa road would soon be reopened.
He also announced plans to establish a military camp along the route, which is expected to boost security and stimulate local economic activities.”The President is fully committed to ending insecurity in Northern Nigeria, and we are here to ensure that no stone is left unturned,” Dr. Matawalle said.
In Isa Local Government Area, the Minister urged residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. He also visited Turba village, where he assured the community of additional military deployments to strengthen security.
Commending the troops at the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Birni, Dr. Matawalle praised their dedication and promised to address their welfare and logistical needs promptly. He also announced plans to establish a military base between Sabon Birni and Tsamaye to further bolster regional security.
Throughout the tour, Dr. Matawalle visited several villages affected by banditry, including Hawan Duro and Mai Lalle, where he promised the deployment of more troops and reassured displaced residents that they would soon be able to return home.
At Goronyo Local Government Area, the Minister reiterated the government’s plan to set up military camps along key routes. He also commended the Sokoto State Government for its support in the ongoing security operations.
The tour highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-West. Dr. Matawalle expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by military personnel and urged local communities to continue cooperating with security forces.
The Federal Government remains steadfast in its mission to end banditry and insecurity in the North-West, with the deployment of additional troops and the establishment of new military bases expected to bring long-awaited peace to the region.
Dr. Matawalle was accompanied on the tour by the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, senior government officials, and military officers.
