Defence Minister engages stakeholders in Plateau State, calls for sustained peace
Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, the Minister of Defence, held crucial discussions with key stakeholders, traditional rulers, security agencies, and local government leaders in Plateau State as part of efforts to maintain and bolster the peace in the region.
According to a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, the Minister focused on the need to sustain the fragile peace in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, Wase, and Bassa Local Government Areas.
He urged for continued peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, discouraging both groups from resorting to violence.
During the meeting, Badaru highlighted several factors contributing to the region’s instability, including negligence by some leaders, criminal exploitation, and ethno-religious tensions.
He stressed the importance of community engagement, credible intelligence, and collective action to tackle these security challenges.
“The Federal Government is committed to deploying all assets to ensure our people sleep with their eyes closed,” he assured the participants.
Welcoming suggestions from the stakeholders, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to implementing lasting peace strategies in the region.
