Defence Minister urges Nigerian Air Force to step up efforts against insecurity in North-West
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to increase its dominance over the nation’s airspace in a bid to curb insecurity, particularly in the North-West region.
The Minister emphasized this directive during a visit to the 213 Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Katsina State, as outlined in a statement signed by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations.
“We are deploying additional platforms, including attack helicopters and drones, to enhance your capabilities and eliminate bandits and terrorists,” Minister Abubakar told the NAF personnel.
He assured them of continued support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to strengthening the armed forces in their fight against insecurity.
The Minister added that President Tinubu is pleased with the recent progress and stands ready to supply the necessary resources and ensure the welfare of the troops.
In a direct appeal, Abubakar urged the forces to “end insecurity now,” underscoring the government’s focus on an expedited resolution to the crisis.
Earlier in the day, the Minister also addressed officers at FOB Zurmi and Gurbi Baure.
He commended their dedication and encouraged them to continue their renewed efforts.
“I have seen you; you are all charged. The progress we are recording so far indicates that you have the capacity and will to end it”, he remarked.
The Minister also acknowledged the roles of Zamfara and Katsina states in supporting the federal government’s initiatives, highlighting a recent meeting with the governors of both states and the National Security Adviser.
The meeting focused on strategies to enhance security cooperation and mobilize community support against threats in the region.
With this reinforced partnership and the continued commitment of the Nigerian Air Force, the Defence Minister expressed optimism that the North-West could soon see a substantial reduction in insecurity.
