Defence Minister orders security for repairs on power infrastructure amid grid collapse in Northern Nigeria
Following the recent collapse of the national electricity grid caused by third-party interference, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has directed the Chief of Defence Staff to secure ongoing repairs on damaged power infrastructure.
This directive aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate to urgently address the widespread power outages impacting Northern Nigeria.
The Minister’s disclosed in a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, emphasized the importance of preventing further interference from non-state actors as repair crews work to restore the affected electricity towers.
Ensuring the security of these critical assets is aimed at accelerating repair efforts and returning stable power to the affected regions.
“The priority is to protect workers and secure the infrastructure so the grid can be restored as quickly as possible for the benefit of all citizens,” the statement read.
Abubakar also appealed for patience and understanding from Nigerians, especially those in the northern states directly affected by the outages.
He assured the public that efforts are underway to address the situation and restore normalcy.
