Matawalle urges calm in Osun, calls for stronger security measures
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammad Matawalle, has voiced deep concern over the recent unrest in some local government areas of Osun State, which has tragically resulted in the loss of lives.
In a statement signed by Iyogun Sunday, on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations, Matawalle called on security agencies to take proactive steps to restore and maintain law and order in the state.
The Minister described the situation as alarming and stressed the importance of immediate action to prevent further violence. “As Minister of State for Defence, my duty also includes the protection of lives and properties of all citizens,” Matawalle stated.
He highlighted that the government remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all Nigerians.
“This affirmation stands as a testament to the administration’s dedication to ensuring that democratic principles are respected and upheld at all levels of governance,” he added.
Matawalle also praised the judiciary for its independence, noting that its recent rulings reflect the core values of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which is firmly rooted in justice, equity, and the rule of law.
Calling for unity and dialogue, the Minister urged political leaders, community stakeholders, and civil society organizations to work together in fostering peace.
He emphasized the need for constructive engagement, stressing that collaboration is key to creating a safe and conducive environment for Osun State’s growth and development.
To the people of Osun, Matawalle appealed for calm, urging residents to avoid actions that could heighten tensions. He assured them that the federal government is actively working to strengthen security in the region.
“The government remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens. Peace and stability are paramount, and we will support all efforts aimed at achieving harmony within Osun State,” he assured.
