Defence Minister receives security briefing from military chiefs, vows stronger support for troops
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, on Tuesday held an operational briefing with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Service Chiefs at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement signed by Sani Datti on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations, the high-level meeting was aimed at providing the Minister with a comprehensive update on the country’s security situation, particularly in regions plagued by insurgency, banditry, and communal unrest.
The briefing focused on the security landscape in the North East, Plateau State, North West, North Central, and South East. These areas have remained flashpoints due to persistent attacks from non-state actors, prompting intensified military interventions.
The session explored ongoing operations, strategic challenges, and efforts to enhance inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing, and resource deployment.
Borno and Plateau states were said to be central to the discussions, with senior military officers outlining both the threats and proposed strategies to contain them. The Minister and the Service Chiefs developed fresh plans to strengthen ongoing operations and restore stability in the affected regions.
Minister Badaru expressed commitment to working closely with the military to craft practical and sustainable solutions to Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
He also reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering support for the Armed Forces, highlighting the need for a proactive, intelligence-led, and community-focused approach to national defence.
“This briefing has not only broadened my understanding of the situation on the ground beyond what I saw during my field visits, but it has also showcased the immense efforts of our troops in protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.
“We are determined to support our gallant troops with the necessary tools and policies needed to win the fight against insecurity and ensure that every Nigerian lives in safety and dignity”, the Minister stated.
The session marks one of several strategic engagements by the Defence Ministry to fine-tune military operations and reinforce national security amid ongoing threats.
