Defence Minister Badaru mourns Buhari, says Nigeria has lost a pillar of integrity and unity
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a monumental loss to the nation.
In a condolence message issued on Monday and signed by Patience Ituke, Principal Superintendent of Press for the Director of Information and Public Relations, the Minister extended his heartfelt sympathies to the Buhari family and the entire nation following the former leader’s passing on Sunday in London.
Minister Badaru said the loss transcends personal grief, noting that Buhari’s passing has created a void in the fabric of Nigeria’s leadership history.
He hailed the former president’s legacy of discipline, service, and patriotism.
“This loss is profound, not only for the Buhari family but for the entire nation that he served with unwavering dedication and commitment.
“During his tenure, President Buhari demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the development and progress of Nigeria”, the Minister stated.
In his message, Badaru also paid tribute to Buhari’s notable contributions to democracy, national unity, and the fight against corruption, hallmarks of his time in office that, according to the Minister, earned him the admiration of many Nigerians.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Defence and the Nigerian Armed Forces, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, government, and people of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the passing of Former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We remember his dedication to democracy, stability, and the unity of our nation, as well as his unwavering commitment to the anti-corruption crusade, which endeared him to many Nigerians”, he said.
Concluding his tribute, the Minister prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved family and the nation at large. “May Allah grant him Aljana Firdausi and provide his family and all Nigerians with the fortitude to bear this great loss,” he added.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who served from 2015 to 2023, was widely regarded as a symbol of discipline and anti-corruption, with a long-standing influence on Nigeria’s military and civilian governance.
