Defence Minister visits Plateau community after attack, reassures of FG’s commitment to end violence
Following a deadly attack in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has visited the affected community to commiserate with victims and reaffirm the federal government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
The Minister, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, met with victims and families who lost loved ones in the attack. He offered prayers, words of comfort, and assurances that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
“It is imperative that we put an end to the cycle of violence that has plagued this region,” he stated during the visit.
He was received by Major General Folusho Oyilola, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, who briefed him on the ongoing security efforts in the area.
Minister Badaru conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s concern over the repeated violence in Plateau and his directive that no effort should be spared in tracking down those behind the attacks.
“Mr. President is deeply concerned about the security challenges in Plateau State and has directed us to ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous acts are apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration between federal and state authorities, noting that structures were being put in place to prevent future attacks.
Calling for calm, the Minister appealed to community leaders and residents to support security efforts through intelligence sharing, which he described as vital to identifying and apprehending criminal elements.
“The geographical landscape is vast, and the communities are dispersed. But I am confident that through intelligence sharing, the involvement of community elders, persistent prayers, and the unwavering commitment of Mr. President, we will address the root causes of this crisis,” he added.
The visit is part of ongoing efforts by the federal government to respond swiftly to rising insecurity in parts of the country and assure citizens of their safety.
